Lucid Stead: A Transparent Cabin Built of Wood and Mirrors by Phillip K Smith III
Part architectural intervention and part optical illusion, Lucid Stead is a recently unveiled installation by artist Phillip K Smith III in Joshua Tree, California. The artist modified an existing 70-year-old homesteader shack by introducing mirrors to create the illusion of transparency, as the structure now takes on the lighting characteristics of anything around it.
Ornate Mixed Media Assemblages by Kris Kuksi
This week Kansas-based artist Kris Kuksi opened his fourth solo show, Revival, at Joshua Liner Gallery. Kuksi's use of ornate assemblage creates wildly complex sculptures that comment on history, life, death, and spiritual conflict. Revival will be on view through January 18, 2014.
New Ornate Insects Drawn by Alex Konahin
Latvia-based graphic artist and illustrator Alex Konahin recently completed work on a new series of ornate insect drawings titled Little Wings. The illustrations were made using pens and india ink in his distinctive style, making use of ornate scrolls and intricate floral designs.

Nature Imitates Andy Goldsworthy: Rare Ice Disk Forms in North Dakota River
At first glance you might assume that this giant rotating ice disk was some kind of man-made object. However it is actually an extremely rare natural phenomenon. This example was spotted by retired engineer George Loegering while hiking along the Sheyenne River in North Dakota.
The Smallest Printing Company: Miniature Printing Presses For a Mobile Printing Studio
Forget the latest desktop printer from HP or Epson, what you need is a new miniature printing press designed by the traveling open source design studio Letterproeftuin out of the Netherlands. Created for the International Poster and Graphic Design Festival Chaumont earlier this year, the miniature screen and letter printing presses were created so that Letterproeftuin could create smaller prints while on location at printing shows.
Head On: 99 Life-Size Replica Wolves Crash into Glass Wall
Cai Guo-Qiang's famous airborne cascade of 99 wolves, Head On, is currently on display at Queensland Art Gallery | Gallery of Modern Art in South Brisbane, Australia. The exhibition also includes Guo-Qiang's newest large-scale installation, Heritage, which depicts replicas of 99 species of wild animals drinking from the same watering hole.
