I might leave or I might stay till the end, but I don’t think I would burst into applause right away.<BR/>I still believe that a theater play has a cathartic role, as preached by the Greek tragedy. Now, according to the Webster dictionary, chatarsis has the following meanings:<BR/>1) purging the body by the use of a cathartic to stimulate evacuation of the bowels (purgation)<BR/>2)elimination of a complex by bringing it to consciousness and affording its expression; (psychoanalysis) purging of emotional tension<BR/>Therefore, seen from this perspective, “the crying body” would bring forth all the intimate issues, especially the sexual ones, in order to offer the audience an emotional outlet. After all, “homo sum et nihil humani a me alienum puto” said Terentius and I don’t see why we would not acknowledge all these manifestations as being human.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
